The IP68 rating and salt spray resistance of a cooling fan are two different concepts, with the main differences being as follows:
- Definition and Testing Standards
IP68: The IP (Ingress Protection) protection level consists of two digits, the first digit representing the dustproof level and the second digit representing the waterproof level. IP68 is the highest level of dust and water resistance, where "6" indicates complete prevention of foreign intrusion, and "8" indicates that it can be immersed in water for a long time under a certain pressure, usually suitable for environments that are submerged in water for a long time. During testing, the fan will be placed in specific testing equipment to simulate different water pressures and soaking times to test its sealing performance.
Salt spray resistance: Salt spray resistance refers to the ability of a fan to resist salt spray corrosion. Salt spray test is to place a fan in an atomization environment containing sodium chloride solution, atomize salt water into small particles through specific equipment, spray the fan at a certain concentration and time, simulate the use of the fan in coastal or other high salinity environments, and test its corrosion resistance.

Salt spray prevention: It is to prevent the metal parts of the fan from corroding in a salt spray environment. The chloride ions in salt spray have strong corrosiveness, gradually damaging the protective film on the metal surface, causing rusting and corrosion of the metal, thereby affecting the structural strength and electrical performance of the fan, and reducing the service life of the fan.

At the same time, special design and treatment will be carried out on the fan shaft, cable interface and other parts that are prone to water ingress to ensure a high level of dust and water resistance.
Salt spray prevention: It is generally achieved by anti-corrosion treatment of the metal parts of the fan, such as electroplating, spraying anti-corrosion paint, and using corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel. These treatment methods can form a protective film on the metal surface, preventing chloride ions in salt spray from coming into contact with the metal, thus achieving the purpose of corrosion prevention.
