In Sanyo SanAce cooling fans, the PCB board primarily realizes speed control through PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) technology.

The specific process is analyzed as follows:

1、Signal Input: The PWM signal is typically an input signal from a standard 4-pin fan connector, transmitted via a dedicated PWM pin. The signal frequency is generally fixed at around 20kHz, ensuring that the noise is inaudible to the human ear.

2、Signal Interpretation: The control circuit (such as a microprocessor or driver chip) built into the PCB board of the fan interprets the duty cycle of the PWM signal. The duty cycle refers to the ratio of the high-level duration of the pulse signal to the entire cycle. For example, a 0% duty cycle means the fan is stopped, a 100% duty cycle means the fan operates at maximum speed, and an intermediate value (e.g., 50%) means the fan runs at medium speed.

3、Motor Response: The control circuit adjusts the magnitude of the motor drive current based on the duty cycle, thereby regulating the fan speed. Through switched current control, PWM enables precise speed adjustment without excessive energy loss.

4、Real-Time Feedback: Some high-end fans also feed back the actual speed to the main control system via the FG (Frequency Generator) signal (speed feedback), forming a closed-loop regulation. This further improves the accuracy of speed control, making the fan speed closer to the set value and ensuring the stability and reliability of the heat dissipation effect.

In addition, the PCB board can be paired with a thermistor to achieve more intelligent speed control. The thermistor monitors the device temperature in real time: when the temperature rises, the PCB board increases the duty cycle of the PWM signal based on the signal fed back by the thermistor to boost the fan speed; when the temperature drops, it reduces the duty cycle to lower the fan speed. This balances heat dissipation requirements with reduced energy consumption and noise.

What Other Methods Can Control the Speed of Sanyo SanAce Cooling Fans Besides PWM Technology?

Besides PWM technology, Sanyo SanAce cooling fans can also have their speed controlled through temperature-controlled speed regulation, DC voltage speed regulation, resistance speed regulation, and other methods. The details are as follows:

1、Temperature-Controlled Speed Regulation (TC): Temperature sensors such as thermistors are used to monitor the temperature of the fan or its surrounding environment. When the temperature rises, the resistance value of the thermistor changes, altering the current or voltage of the fan drive circuit—this speeds up the fan to enhance heat dissipation. When the temperature drops, the fan speed slows down, achieving energy conservation and noise reduction. This method is particularly suitable for scenarios with high requirements for temperature control.

2、DC Voltage Speed Regulation (VPWM): The fan speed is changed by adjusting the magnitude of the DC voltage supplied to the fan. The higher the voltage, the faster the fan speed; the lower the voltage, the slower the speed. This method is relatively simple but is less precise and efficient than PWM speed regulation. Additionally, the voltage adjustment range must be controlled within a reasonable interval to avoid damaging the fan.

3、Resistance Speed Regulation (RC): The fan speed is adjusted by changing the resistance in the cooling fan circuit. A variable resistor is connected in series with the fan circuit—according to Ohm’s Law, when the resistance increases, the circuit current decreases, and the fan speed drops. This method is easy to operate but has limited speed regulation accuracy. It also increases circuit energy consumption and heat generation, so it is relatively rarely used in modern electronic equipment.
